Summer Craft Camp-Ocean!

We started Craft Camp this week by playing in the sand. What better way to learn about the ocean and the beach then to FEEL like you are there.

The kids each got a few scoops of wet sand and they played with it for awhile.

Then we put all of our sand together and made a "sand castle."

After playing in the sand, we read "Commotion in the Ocean" by Giles Andreae. This book has a little blurp on 15 or so different ocean animals. The illustrations are darling and it is a rhyming book too.

We then played "Ocean Animals Matching" We used the game that I printed from this website: 1+1+1=1 (http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.com/Preschool_Pack_In_the_girly_sea2.pdf) She has lots of other cute stuff on there.

Now it is time to put together our "Beach I Spy Bag." (I had already sewn the bags together leaving a small hole in one side to put the "beach things.") Each kid got 10 items to put in their bag (most of the things were buttons I purchased from JoAnns Craft Store and then I got a basket of real seashells from the Dollar Tree and a Prehistoric Shark Toob I got at JoAnn's.)

Once all the "beach things" were in the bags we put about 2 1/2 cups of Hartz 100% Natural Corn Cob to hide the items. Then I sewed the hole closed and we attached the "what to look for" tag to the bag with some yarn.

We listened to "Fidgety Fish" by Ruth Galloway

We played several other games from this website: Homeschool Creations (http://homeschoolcreations.com/pondpreschoolpack.html)

We learned the song "Octopus" from the "10 Carrot Diamond" CD by Charlotte Diamond.

Last thing before going home, we read "The Three Little Fish and The Big Bad Shark" by Ken Geist

The smile on their faces tells me they had a great time. We will have the I Spy bags for years to come.

The end of T-ball Season

Benjamin is almost finished playing his first season of t-ball. He has loved it!

Here is his team. We only had 8 kids on our team so it was rough but his coach, Vanessa, did an awesome job and Benjamin loved playing T-ball. He says he can't wait to play when they "throw the ball to you so you can hit it."

Benjamin said this was a picture of him getting ready to "vacumn up the ball" Apparently that is what his coaches called this stance.

Macey's Kid Karnival

We went to Macey's Kids Karnival last week and the kids had so much fun. They had free popcorn and cotton candy and the kids got to throw a ball at the target to try to dunk a Macey's employee in the dunk tank. They also had an inflatable slide that the boys went on several times. The last thing we did before coming home was face painting. I did not have my camera while we were there so the only pictures I have are of the kids faces (after we got home.)

The boys chose this cute little ladybug for Gracie and she just let the lady paint it on her face. She did not try to get out of the chair and she didn't even scream. I was way surprised and it turned out so cute!

Benjamin chose to have a robot. Alex chose a football, but before we got home he had it mostly rubbed off so...no picture.

We had such a great party for Alex's 4th Birthday. He invited 9 friends over to come play and they all came! We made each one a "hot rod racecar" and they were able to make personalized licence plates that we attached to the car before the relay race. We played "Pin the Wheel on the Racecar" and ate a yummy lunch of mini hotdogs and cheese balls. Cake and IceCream was also part of the festivities. Alex received lots of great gifts from all of his little friends.

Summer Craft Camp- Pirates!

For our very first Summer Craft Camp, the kids made treasure boxes. We read the story "How I became a Pirate!" by Melinda Long. They got to "walk the plank" and have a peg leg race. We also played Pirate Concentration and Roll-a-Pirate. We decorated the treasure boxes with pirate stickers and jewels. They turned out really good and the kids had a great time.

The kids got to paint their treasure box black. We wore aprons so that no paint got on the clothing!

Work, Work and More Work!

This man works so hard. He works a 9 hour day (Mon-Thurs) at work and a 9-10 hour day (Fri-Sat) at J&J. Then he comes home and works till well past dark at home (Mon-Sat) He has scouts every Wed. night and Master Gardners every Thurs. night. I am gone to YW every Tues. night and he never complains! He has energy (or he pretends he does) to play with the kids and he (hardly) ever yells. I am so blessed to have him in my life and I am so glad he chose me. I am grateful for all he does to make it possible for me to stay home with our children. What a great daddy and husband!!

T-ball Season

Benjamin started playing T-ball right after soccer was over. He loves it! They practice for the first half hour and the coach teaches them things about baseball and then they "play" the last half hour. I say "play" because they really just let every one on both teams bat and hit the ball and they play different positions in the outfield while the other team bats. We only have 8 players on our team and all the other teams have had 13-15 players. I guess it's good it wasn't a real game or we would have to forfeit every single game. Benjamin is having a good time and I guess that is what counts!:) They also have a cool shirt and hat. Their team name is THUNDER!

Benjamin Graduates Preschool!!

Benjamin has been to his fair share of preschool and now he FINALLY gets to go to Kindergarten. This kid is so smart and is already reading. He loves learning and is so ready for kindergarten. He did his kindergarten testing and the teacher said he passed with flying colors! He will get to ride the school bus with some of his friends from preschool and he will go to school in the morning...which is better for him since he is an early bird. The bus stop is 2 houses down and then the bus driver will drop him off right in front of our house every day after school. I just hope he will be a good boy in school and listen to his teacher better than he listens to me.:) I wish I had some pictures of graduation but when you are the teacher it is hard to be the photographer also. Way to go Benjamin! We are so proud of you!!

Zoo Safari Fieldtrip

For preschool, we went on a fieldtrip to the Willow Park Zoo. We rode the bus to the transit center and then rode another bus to the zoo. We played at the park for awhile before eating lunch and then going on a "safari" through the zoo. The kids had a blast and I know mine were exhausted when we finally rode 2 more buses and then walked home. This was a fun fieldtrip and I plan on doing it again next year! I could not have done it without the parents that were able to go with us. Enjoy the many pictures that follow!

We played at the park for a little while. We were waiting for our lunch to come (Taun brought pizza) The kids had a great time! Gracie loved being able to move freely about without having me bothering her.

Here we are, just getting started on our little Zoo Safari. Don't you love the safari hats the kids have. I bought them at the dollar store and then wrote the kids names on them with puffy paint. They were so thrilled to have them (even if they were too big and kept falling off!)

The peacock had just had its feathers fully extended. I barely missed getting a picture of it. Aren't they beautiful!

Benjamin is showing off his Safari Book. I made 14 of them so that each of my students and my niece could have their own book. They mark off the different animals in the book as they see them at the zoo.

When we had the Beddes cousins here for Easter, uncle Matt (Taun's brother) hooked the kids up with this awesome swing. We had the clothes line and he added the ropes and sticks. Who needs Disneyland!

Benjamin was playing outside the other day and he was "zooming" Gracie's bike around and when he hit the grass he did a flip over it. He hit part of the bike on his chest and this is the result.

We have no gauze or big bandages and he was complaining about it rubbing on his shirt so we covered it with Winnie the Pooh bandaids. It only took 6 and we had to cover it after his bath yesterday so we have almost used the whole box of bandaids but it is worth it to not have to listen to him complain about it.

Easter (part 2)

Here are some pictures of our Easter party with Taun's family. We were able to have everyone come to our house for the hunt and dinner. It was so much fun. My kids love, LOVE to play with cousins and I LOVE to visit with family. I made the little chick boxes for all the kids and the name cards for the adults. The decorations made it feel real Springy and I think they turned out cute.

We had a wonderful Easter. The kids made quite the haul on all the hunts we had (1 at preschool, 2 with the Davis' and 1 with the Beddes'.) The Easter bunny was really busy and didn't get to us until Monday night but the kids never knew the difference. We colored eggs with the Davis cousins and Grandma Davis and had a big party with the Beddes cousins. Below are some really great pictures (in no particular order...thanks to blogger for being weird lately I can't see the pictures I upload until I view my blog) Taun followed the boys around with his camera hence no pictures of them. Gracie is helping me right now so if I make no sense you know why. Enjoy!

Visiting Teaching for Easter

For April VT I made these cute candy dispensers. I found them on someone else's blog (I can't remember where) and I will not take credit for the idea but I think mine turned out really cute. They were so easy to make and fairly cheap too. You need a chicken feeder and a regular mouth jar. I painted my chicken feeder and then filled it with candy. I filled the jar with candy and then attached it to the feeder. I tied a bow on the match and now they are waiting to be given to the wonderful ladies I visit teach.

Kitchen Update

My mom and sister helped me(really they did most of it) make all these wonderful window treatments and chairs for my kitchen. I picked the fabric out months ago and knew what I wanted to do but never got it done. My mom did all the sewing and my sister and I did the stapling. I think they turned out great and better than I imagined. Thanks so much to my mom and sister, Pam.

The curtains in my window were just some cheap blue ones I bought at Walmart when we first moved in and now they look like this...

We got some bar stools from Taun's brother and my sister and mom redid them. The only thing left to do is paint them black. If the weather would cooperate I would finish them. Anyway they went from this...

I taught the lesson in YW on Sunday to the Beehives and it taught about how we as women and members of the church, we have a wonderful legacy. One part of the lesson was about the value in a name and I stressed to the girls that it is up to them to decide what people will associate with their name, good or bad. I made these name blocks for each one of them and hopefully they will remember the lesson and do everything in their power to have all things good and clean associated with their name.

for soccer! Benjamin finally gets to play soccer. He has begged for 2 years now and I finally got my act together and signed him up. He was so excited this morning when it was time to go to his first game. His team decided to call themselves "The Dragons" and he has a blue and orange soccer shirt. He did pretty good considering he has never played before and his team even won the game. Go Dragons!!

One night Taun was coming home from teaching a class in Morgan and when he got to Cache Valley it was snowing pretty bad and it was hard to see. He turned off the highway to go to Hyrum and suddenly there was a tree in the road. He had no time to stop (he tried) and he ran into the tree. It shattered the windshield and broke the wiper. He examined the work jeep and decided that there was not any damage to the vehicle besides the windshield so he went home and called the police. They said they had someone on it so he didn't worry about it anymore. About 1/2 hour later, I was coming home from Utah County and when I turned off the highway I was met by several police cars and 2 big trucks. One cop came to tell me what was going on and I informed him that it was my husband who had hit the tree. He asked me where he was now and I told him that he had gone home. The cop followed me home so that he could get a report for Taun to turn into work so that we would not have to fix the windshield ourselves. The windshield is now fixed and we are very grateful that it was not any worse and that Taun was not injured.

Alex left his bike in the driveway and someone ran over it. We have been telling our kids that if they leave their toys in the driveway they will get ruined and broke. I think they will listen better now that something actually happened to Alex's bike. Lucky for him, I was able to find the same bike at DI for $5. It had no seat but Benjamin quickly figured out that we could just put the seat from Alex's ruined bike on the "new" one and it would sork great! That is exactly what we did and it does work great. Alex rides it every chance he gets and he is really good at it. We may even try to take the training wheels off it this summer and let him learn to ride without them. It sure beats riding the pink princess bike he was given by the person who ran it over.

These darling blocks just came in the mail today! I have a friend who makes these cute things and awhile back she had a contest and I WON!! I was so excited! They are double sided and they look great on my cabinet. They add so much SPRING to the room. Thanks Laurie!

We msde some traps this year to catch the little green men and we even filled them with all things green and some gold. The sneaky little guys took our gold and got away. They did leave us some yummy treats though. We will try again next year.

On March 14th I was really stumped on what to fix for dinner (like always!) I was on facebook and several people were posting that it was pie day. In mathematical terms 3.14=pie. I thought it would be fun to join some of them that were having pie for dinner so I made a Chicken Pot Pie and then made a Vanilla pudding pie with bananas for dessert. Both were delishious and way easy. If you want the recipes just leave me a comment with contact info and I will send them to you.

I can't believe how much snow we got! Taun said there are 18 inches out there! I am so sick of it. The boys went out to play and only lasted about 10 minutes because it is soooo deep...they kept getting stuck!

Taun has been working on perfecting his bread making skills. He is getting really good at making it and it seems to get better each time he makes it. This picture is of the loaves he made to take to his Home Teaching families. It tastes as good as it looks.

Taun and I have been talking about getting the boys their won scriptures for church. We went to Deseret Book yesterday and got them each a hard back blue Book of Mormon. They were so excited and could hardly wait to take them to church today. I got thinking last night that they did not have a bag to carry them in and so I got out some felt and made them each a scripture bag. (I love working with felt. It is so easy to cut and it does not fray so you don't "have" to finish the edges.) I didn't want them to be just plain and boring so I added the "CTR" letters to the front and used some fun ribbon for the handles. The boys were thrilled to take them to church and they even remembered to bring them home.

This little girl has been busy! She got her first real haircut just after Christmas. She had some pretty crazy hair but now it is all even and looks better. She finally made it to 22 lbs. and is now getting some molars. She has 8 teeth and 2-3 molars trying to make their way through. She has finally started to take steps without something to hold onto but is still real nervous about it. She is a daddy's girl all the way and wants nothing to do with me when he is around. She hollars at people when they do something she does not like and we feel like we are always in trouble because she follows us around the house screaming at us.

One day at gr. & gr. Beddes's house, Gracie was climbing on the foot stool and then awhile later gr. Beddes had his feet on it. You should have heard how she got after him. It was really funny.

We love this girl and we know that she is going to give us a run for the money!

This poor little boy has the worst luck. He is always getting hurt. I believe it is because he is fearless and will try anything.

Just the other day I asked him to go upstairs to get something for me and on his way up he tripped on the stairs and his face met the floor. Now it would not have been such a big deal except for the floor was hardwood. He started to cry and before I made it to him (within seconds) his eye was purple and puffy. He broke skin and now has a scab and a black eye. Pretty impressive and he only complained about it for 1 day. What a tough boy!

that we live in Utah! Why? you ask. Because we were playing inside building towers and indoor bowling one weekend and then swimming the next and then playing outside in the snow the very next weekend. I love where we live but I sure wish the weather could be a little more consistent.

Menu Plan Monday

Monday - Pork Barbacoa Burritos (I love Macey's Crock Talk!)

4 lbs. Boneless Pork Roast
40 oz. tomato sauce
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
4 cups Dr. Pepper
3 tsp. garlic powder
4 tsp. cumin
3 tsp. molasses
Tortillas

Mix garlic powder, cumin, molasses, tomato sauce, brown sugar, and Dr. Pepper in a large bowl. Pour mixture over pork roast and cook in crock pot on low for 6-7 hours. Shred meat, return to pot and cook 1 hour in the sauce on low. Keep warm until ready to serve. Serve in tortillas. Garnish with shredded cheese, lettuce and sour cream.

Tuesday - Colorful Chicken and Rice (Gayla)

1 cup uncooked rice
2 boneless chicken breasts
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of chicken soup
2 cans water
1 pkg. dry onion soup mix
1/2 teaspoon paprika

Any or all of these vegetables can be added:
1 large carrot, sliced into pennies
1 cup of fresh cut-up green beans
1 medium bell pepper, chopped
1 can of corn, drained

Place rice in bottom of crock pot. Pour water over rice. Mix canned soups and dry soup mix in a bowl and pour over rice. Add chopped veggies. Place chicken on top. Sprinkle with paprika. Cook on low for 3-4 hours.

Wednesday - Cheese Filled Jumbo Shells (thanks to Hilary for sharing this one)

1 pkg. jumbo shells
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbs. chopped fresh parsley
1/4 tsp. ground pepper
4 cups ricotta cheese
3/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
3/4 tsp. dried oregano
3 cups spaghetti sauce

Pre-heat oven to 375. Cook pasta according to package directions. Meanwhile in a large bowl, stir everything but the shells and spaghetti sauce. In 13 x 9 pan, spread 1 cup spaghetti sauce. Fill each shell with about 2 Tbs. mixture. Arrange shells in tight rows. Spread remaining sauce over shells. Sprinkle with additional parmesan or mozzarella cheese, if desired. Cover with foil. Bake 35 minutes or until hot and bubbly.

Thursday - Hawaiian Haystacks

1 can cream of chicken soup
1 pkg. chicken gravy
2 cups shredded chicken

Pour on rice and top with cheese, olives, onions, peppers, tomatoes, chow mein noodles and anything else you think will taste good.

Friday - we will be at my mom's house. Taun and my dad are going fishing, so we will propably have fish. YUCK!!

Monday - Chicken Fajitas

Tuesday - Easy Crockpot Chicken and Veggies (thanks Maceys for the recipe)

10 medium red potatoes
1 lb. baby carrots
6 chicken breasts
1 can cream of chicken
1 can cream of mushroom
1/2 tsp. garlic powder

Cut potatoes into chunks. Place potatoes and carrots in crockpot. Place chicken on top of veggies. Combine soups and garlic powder. Pour over chicken. Cover and cook on low for 8 hrs. Salt and pepper to taste.

Wednesday - Cheesy Mostaccioli (thanks Hilary E. for the recipe), salad, french bread

1 lb. mostaccioli noodles (cooked)
1 jar Classico tomato and basil sauce
1 can cheddar cheese soup
1 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 lb. browned hamburger

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine pasta, soup, and classico sauce. Add pepper, Italian seasoning, 2 cups mozzarella cheese, and meat. Mix to combine. Place in a baking dish. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top.

Bake for 25-30 min.

Thursday - One dish Chicken & Rice Bake (thanks Gayla for the recipe)

1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup water
3/4 cup uncooked regular white rice
1/4 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. pepper
4 chicken breasts

In 2 qt. baking dish mix soup, water, rice, paprika, and pepper. Place chicken on rice mixture. Sprinkle with additional paprika and pepper. Cover and bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes.

Oh the CRAZY things they do!

So we were eating dinner tonight and Gracie proceeded to pour her apple juice all over the high chair tray. That is pretty normal. The next thing I know however, is that she is sliding her hands in it and then rubbing them in her hair. I just had to get a video. The boys thought it was pretty funny and they had to add their own crazy actions to the video.

I have not posted anything for such a long time but my sister-in-law just posted her menu for the week and I thought it would be kind of fun to post mine and tag others to post theirs. This might be an easy way to get some new recipes. I am always looking for good and easy recipes that my family will like. Here goes...

Monday - Tatertot Casserole, green beans, bisquits

1 pkg. tatertots
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 lb. ground beef
1 1/2 cups cheese

Mix all together and bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.

Tuesday - Chicken Crescent Rolls, rice, corn

2 cups cooked, cubed chicken
4 T. melted butter
1/2 t. salt
8 oz. cream cheese
1/4 t. pepper
Dash of garlic salt
2 T. chopped onion
24 crescent rolls

Mix ingredients well and roll up in crescent rolls. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-13 minutes or until golden brown. Cover with chicken gravy.

Wednesday - Crock Pot Lasagna, salad, french bread

1 lb. ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can tomato sauce (29 oz.)
1 cup water
1 can tomato paste (6 oz.)
1 t. salt
1 t. dried oregano
1 pkg. no cook lasagna noodles
4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 1/2 cups small curd cottage cheese
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese

Cook beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Add the tomato sauce, water, tomato paste, salt and oregano; mix well. Spread a fourth of the meat sauce in an ungreased crock pot. Arrange a third of the noodles over sauce (break the noodles.) Mix 3 cups mozzarella, 1 1/2 cups cottage cheese and 1/2 cup parmesan cheese and spread 1/3 over the noodles. Repeat layers twice. Top with remaining cheese. Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or until noodles are tender.

Thursday - Chicken Enchilada Soup, Tortilla Chips

2 cans canned chicken or 3 cups cooked, cubed chicken
4 cups water
4 chicken bouillon cubes
1 can, undrained, diced green chilies
1 pkg. taco seasoning
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can diced tomatos
1 can corn, drained
1 can black beans, drained
tortillas
shredded cheese

Place first 9 ingredients in pot and simmer. while simmering, place enough oil to cover the bottom of a pan (abaout 1/8 inch high), heat. While heating, slice flour tortillas into a 1 inch x 1/4 inch strips. Fry the strips in hot oil about 30 seconds, just until light brown, and place on paper towel to drain. Top individual bowls of soup with tortilla strips and cheese right before serving. Also serve with your choice of toppings, such as sour cream, avocados, etc.

Little Gracie

I took Gracie to the doctor today for her 12 month well baby check (she is actually almost 13 months) and found out she only weighs 18 lbs. 13 oz. She has only gained .4 oz. in the last 3 months. We have to move her back into the backward facing carseat and she will not be happy about it. She is in the 11% for weight. So CRAZY!!

Pumpkins + Knife = Jack-O-Lanterns

We finally got around to carving the pumpkins. My dad gave us the pumpkins from his garden several weeks ago and they are finally with faces on our porch. The boys (and Gracie) had a great time. Benjamin was excited to "get out all the gunk" until it was actually time to do it so I got all the guts out of each pumpkin after Taun cut the tops off. Benjamin wanted his to be eerie (What does that mean, Mommy?) and Alex wanted his to look like him. Gracie just had a great time watching everything going on.

This is Gracie and her "twin" cousin, Caleb. They were born on the same day. Aren't they the cutest "twins" ever??

She got lots of great presents from everyone which included: toy cars, clothes, stuffed animals, toys with lights, and a doll stroller that is also a walker. Maybe whe will learn how to walk soon. (Let's hope not!)

Gracie wanted NOTHING to do with her cake. She did not want to touch it or eat it. It was kind of funny. Needless to say I did not have to clean up much.

Just the other day we took advantage of one of the warmer days and we went to the park. There is a park about two blocks from our house so we walked over there and had a great time playing. The kids played on the swings, the slides, the monkey bars and there is a little rock wall that they climbed. We love the warm fall days and know they are soon to be replaced with the cold winter days. It was fun!

"Fishing"

We went "fishing" with my family for family night a few weeks ago. We had a great time even though no one caught a fish until the very end. My nephew, Taylor caught a fish about a half hour before we had planned on leaving. He was so nice, he let Benjamin reel it in.

Gracie can CRAWL...FORWARD!... FINALLY!!

Gracie has been moving around for quite awhile but she has only going backwards. She seemed to be content with that until last Thurs. or Fri. she began crawling forward and now she can really move. She goes everywhere and she loves it. She is such a joy and I can't believe she is almost 1!

Short Stuff Preschool is now in session!

As many of you know, I have started teaching preschool from my home. We started on Sept. 7 and so far (3 days) it is going great. I have 5 kids in each class (that includes my own 2 boys) My neighbor is kind enough to watch Gracie for me during the 3 year old class. I am hoping that Gracie will nap during the majority of the 4 year old class but if not she will just play and so far the kids have been able to ignore her for the most part. I have some cute kids enrolled and I hope they enjoy coming to "Short Stuff Preschool"

Thanks to my mom, my sister, and Taun, I was ready to start school on time. My mom and sister cut all the cute vinyl for me and then my mom came for a few days and helped me put the finishing touches on the walls. I think it turned out so cute. It is a great space, even though we had to move our family room. We tore down a wall in the basement to make a bigger room for the family room and it looks great. Thanks to my dad for all his work and to my brother for laying the carpet. we were finally able to cover the wall that said "I hate my mom and bad." Someone must have been really mad.

Benjamin Riding Bike

This summer, my brother Todd, taught Benjamin how to ride his bike without training wheels. He loves to ride his bike now and will not ride it unless he has his helmet and pads on. What a good little boy!

Tabiona 2010

The kids and I went with my family to Tabiona for the annual Newell Reunion. We always have a blast up there and this year was no different. The kids were able to ride their bikes all over camp and go fishing. This year we even played in the river. It was freezing water but the kids sure enjoyed being in the water.

Gracie spent alot of the time either in the pack-n-play or in the exersaucer. She loved being able to be outside all day.

Grandpa enjoyed watching the kids play in the water.

Gracie and Grandma stayed as far away from the water as they could but close enough to see the kids playing.

Alex LOVED the water...it was hard to keep him out of it.

Benjamin loved being in the freezing cold river water...as long as he could stay on his feet!

We had a great time celebrating my niece Mikaela's Birthday while we were there. The kids all made a birthday crown and some of them were happier about it than others.

Calling All SuperHeros!!

Benjamin turned 5 on Sept. 1. We had a Superhero Birthday Party for him a few weeks before and we had a blast! I made a cape for each of the kids (11 total) and when they arrived, they made a belt and a mask to complete their costume. They all looked so cute! (I wish I would have had batteries for my camera to take pictures of them all.) We had a Super Hero Academy where each kid learned how to be a super hero. They were able to "Vaporize a Villian" with silly string, cross over the "Lava Pit" without falling in, use their "Mighty Muscles" and lift a 200 lb. weight, "Leap Over Buildings In a Single Bound" (climb over the picnic table), demonstrate their "Magnificent Minds" by guessing how many pieces of candy in the jar, and retrieve the kryptonite from the "Bat Cave." They also learned how to fly! Each kid received a certificate announcing that they were now a part of the "Justice League". It was so much fun and I'm pretty sure that the kids had a great time.

Alex is 3!! I cannot believe that this little boy is already 3. He is a cutie and a stinker all wrapped up into a little, tough body. We had a "Safari" party for him and lots of cousins and some friends came. We made binoculars, ate pizza and cupcakes, opened tons of presents! Then we went to the Willow Park Zoo. The Princess is 8 months already! She is starting to enjoy food and as you can tell she is very healthy! Benjamin took this picture of me feeding Gracie. He did a pretty good job.

She already has 1, almost 2, teeth! I was trying to get a picture of them but no luck. We'll try again another day.

Every once in a while she gets very serious. She is such a happy baby and we feel so blessed to have her in our home. What a blessing!

My niece, Maddy, was playing with Gracie and she would arch her back and go upside down, every time Maddy said "again" she would do it...until I started filming and then she got stage fright. What a silly girl!

Thursday May 20th was Benjamin's Preschool Graduation. He participated even though he will not be going to Kindergarten until next year. We love his teacher, Miss Kris. She is amazing and Benjamin learned so much this year.

We went to the Maceys Spring Festival on Sat. May 8th and had a GREAT time! The boys got to eat a donut but it was hanging from a string above them and they could not touch it with their hands. They had a great time and they sure enjoyed the donut! We also went down the big blow up slide. That was an adventure!

SEW Amazing!

I have had this desire to learn how to sew and now I have the sewing machine to do it. My mother gave me her old sewing machine and this is the first project I completed ALL BY MYSELF. It is a car play mat for my boys. I put 6 car size pockets in it for the cars and then 2 bigger pockets for whatever else.

This fabric was perfect because the road is the right size for my boys to play cars on. Both my boys love Lightening McQueen and they love to play with cars.

After all the fun playing, you just put all the cars in their own pocket and then just roll it up and tie it and then put it in the church bag and bring it to sacrament meeting the next week. It could also be used for long car trips. My boys love it already!

This is the first test drive for Alex. He LOVED it!

New Hardwood Floor

Taun has been working very hard the last couple of weeks to finish the hardwood floor. We are getting carpet in the majority of the living room but we wanted to leave the entryway as hardwood. Taun sanded the old floor (took him forever to do it with his little sander), and then he stained it and put polyurethane on it. It was so dusty and stinky so the kids and I went to my mom's for two weekends in a row. Taun did such a great job on the floor and I definately like it way better than the old floor.

Dermatagraphism

What is dermatagraphism, you ask? I had never heard of it until we took Alex to the doctor because of this funky rash he had. He had a rash or welts anywhere we touched him or if he would rub up against something he would get all rashy.

The doctor took one look at him and said, "dermatagraphism." I had to ask Taun several times to tell me what the dr. called it because I could never remember how to say it.

When we looked it up it said, "dermatagraphism; the ability to write on skin."

That is exactly what we could do, write words on his skin (barely touching him) and seconds later he would have a welt in the form of whatever word we wrote.

There is no cure for it and all you can do is give them antihistamines. Alex gets Claritin during the day and Benadryl at night. Sometimes it gets really itchy and he just scratches and then it gets worse. Poor kid!

Homemade Doughnuts

I made my first batch of homemade doughnuts tonight and they were YUMMY!!

They turned out looking sort of pretty also. I think my oil was too hot so when I turned it down they were golden brown instead of really brown. I love having the time to do this sort of fun things with my family.

Alex has decided that he is an artist. He has colored on the walls, himself, and paper. The other day he decided to try a new medium...the hot fireplace. The crayons just melted and now our fireplace is very colorful.

He colored on his face with blue marker.

He also tried making art out of melted plastic. He put a measuring spoon in the broiler and then shut it. I never use the broiler so when I turned the oven on to make cookies I was very surprised when I started to smell melted plastic coming from the oven. It took me awhile to find where the smell was coming from.

Alex has also been sick recently and he was having a hard time breathing so we pulled out the nebulizer and gave him some treatments. He did pretty good with them and even had to give some to his teddy bear.

He is a crazy kid but we love him.

Beef Stew

1 pound hamberger, brown until just a little pink remains
1 onion, sliced
6 potatoes, sliced or cubed
3 carrots, sliced
2 cans cream of celery soup

Layer hamburger, onion, potatoes, and carrots and then repeat a second time. Pour 2 cans of cream of celery soup on top. Cook on low for 6 hours.

We are actually going to my mom's house tomorrow and so I will have to try this recipe another time. We are going to make Chinese food instead. YUM!

Super Easy Creamy Chicken

4 chicken breasts, cubed
1 pkg. Italian dressing (powder)
1 cup water
1 block cream cheese
1 can cream of chicken soup

Mix first 3 ingredients in crock pot and cook on high for 4 hours, add in the last 2 ingredients and cook on high for 1 hour. Serve over rice.

I have added all the ingredients at the beginning and then cook on low for 6-8 hours and it tastes great!

1 bottle favorite bbq sauce
2-3 chicken breasts
sandwich buns

Put bbq sauce and chicken in crock pot. Cook on low 6-8 hours.

To Serve:
Shred chicken and put on sandwich buns.

Also tastes great over rice.

Taco Soup

1 lb. hamburger and onion browned
1 quart tomatoes
1 pkg. taco seasoning
1 can kidney beans
1 can green chilies
1 can corn

Pour all ingredients in crock pot. Cook on low 4-6 hours.

To Serve:
Break up tortilla chips in bottom of bowl. Add soup and then top with a dab of sour cream and grated cheese.

Monday Menu

Colorful Chicken and Rice
1 cup uncooked rice
2 boneless chicken breasts
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 pkg. dry onion soup mix
2 cans water
½ t. paprika

Any or all of these vegetables (the more you use, the prettier it looks):
1 large carrot, sliced into pennies
1 cup of fresh cut up green beans
1 medium green pepper, chopped
1 can of corn, drained

Place rice in the bottom of the crockpot. Pour water over rice. Mix canned soups and dry soup mix in a bowl, pour over top of rice. Add chopped veggies. Place chicken on top. Sprinkle with paprika. Cook on low for 3-4 hours.

Operation Crock Pot

A few days back my cousin blogged about how she was sick of doing dishes and so she was going to have a whole week of crock pot meals. How brilliant is she!! I decided that even though I use my crock pot often I would love to try this out and see if it really does eliminate the amount of dishes. I also love crock pots because you can be all ready for dinner by lunch time and then you can focus on other things during that before dinnertime melt down (typical behavior from 4 yr. and 2 yr. olds.) So starting next Monday I will "cook" in my crock pot for one whole week.

My menu is as follows:

Gracie is 3 months old today! Crazy to think that she is already that old. She is such a sweet baby and we all love her. She is starting to smile and "talk" and it is so fun.

Christmas, New Year's & All the Parties

Holiday Houses

We have been very busy again (so if you would rather skip this post, feel free...it is picture packed.)

At the beginning of the week before Christmas we made Holiday Houses with Graham Crackers and a variety of candy. It took an entire can of frosting to make the candy stick and to get the houses to stand for any period of time. The boys loved it and it gave us something to do. I think we will make it an official tradition.

Christmas Eve

We invited Taun's parents to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning with us. We had a delicious dinner, played games, listened to The Story of Jesus' Birth, watched "The Polar Express", had hot chocolate, left banana bread for Santa and carrots for the reindeer, and then had a delicious breakfast in the morning.

This is our elegant table for Christmas Eve Dinner. We had parmesan chicken, baked potatoes, rolls, salad, vegetables, and some bubbly (ie. sparkling cider)

I found some cheep games at the Dollar Store. (They were like the peg games you play at the Cracker Barrel.) The pegs were snowman and reindeer shaped and Benjamin LOVED it!

I used one of my Nativity sets to tell the Story of Christ's Birth and my boys loved the visuals. (Benjamin even understood the story.)

Santa drank all the hot chocolate and ate all the homemade banana bread. The reindeer ate the carrots and Santa even left a note for the boys. He thanked them for the treats and for being such good boys this last year. Benjamin really got a kick out of this.

Christmas Morning

We were definately blessed this year and had lots of presents under our "Charlie Brown Tree." Both of the boys sure enjoyed opening all the presents. Benjamin even opened all of Gracie's.

Santa left us quite a loot this year with the traditional cereal and toothbrushes, the orange in the toe of our stockings, and many other fun games and toys.

Christmas Breakfast

We had a delicious breakfast on Christmas morning, complete with egg and sausage casserole, muffins, fruit, and juice.

Sledding

We decided to go to Grandma & Grandpa Davis' house on Christmas night. We always have tonz of fun there and love seeing all the cousins.

Benjamin waiting for the ride to start. They pull the sleds with the four wheeler all over my parents yard. The kids love it and I am so proud of Benjamin for getting back in the sled even after what happened to him last year. (He fell out of the sled and got run over by it. He almost needed stitches by his eye.) Way to go, Benjamin!

Beddes Family Christmas Party

Most of Taun's siblings came to the Christmas Party this year at Taun's mom and dad's house. We missed seeing Shanee and her family but everyone else was in attendance. For some of them it was the first time they have seen Gracie. She was the hot item of the night and lots of the cousins wanted to hold her. She was a doll and was really well behaved the whole evening.

We played some games that Taun's mom put together...everyone who played had a great time. There were a few party poopers who will not be named (Taun.) He did hold Gracie so that I could play so I guess I will quit complaining about it.

During one of the games, my BIL pulled the card that said he had to sit on my FIL's lap and sing "You are my Sunshine." He was a good sport about it and sat on his lap but I am still waiting to hear him sing. The funniest part about it all is that they are NOT biolocically related!

New Year's Eve

We went to the 2nd annual Davis Family New Year's Eve Party at Grandma & Grandpa Davis' house and as usual grandma (my mother) was prepared with fun activities for the kids. One of the things they did was make their own crown or tiara. They sure had a good time creating great head gear.

Benjamin sat by his favorite cousin, Cougar, and created his orange crown.

Some of my nieces insisted on making a little tiara for Gracie. She looked adorable in it and they had a great time making it for her and then taking pictures. They actually did a good job on the little thing.

We had a delicious dinner of prime rib (YUCK!), Malibu Chicken, baked potatoes, salad, rolls, and cheesecake.

Thanks to all who were around to prepare all the food and to Pam for being so organized about it.

After dinner we played games and of course before too long we pulled out all the munchies and snacked on them all night. We had taquitos, meatballs, 7 layer dip, my brothers famous salsa, cookies and more cheesecake. YUM! YUM!

Sledding Again!

On New Year's Day we all got bundled up and went sledding on the hill by my grandparents house.
Benjamin went down a few times but once he got snow in his face, he was done. He just watched the rest of us go down the hill for the remainder of the time.

When I said "us" I meant all of us. Taun and I even went down a few times. It was a blast! I might have peed my pants a few times but no one could tell because we were all so wet by the time we were done. Snow pants would have been handy.

Alex was waiting with 2 cousins for a turn to ride in the big sled. Aren't they the cutest!

Grandpa is always a trooper and is so willing to do whatever it takes to make sure even the littlest ones have a great time.

This is just after I got to the bottom of the hill. There was so much snow...it was perfect!

Several people waited at the top of the hill to help the little ones get on their sleds and head down the hill.

Look at all that snow and the great hill for sledding.

Alex was all suited up and ready for some fun. (He enjoyed it way more than anyone else did.)

We have been BUSY!

Just having fun one day with the camera. The kids were good sports and enjoyed laying on the floor for such a silly picture.

I was trying to get a few good shots of the princess. She is so cute!

Benjamin had a Christmas program at preschool and my camera only had enough battery power to get a few shots and no video.

Right about here is when Benjamin informed everyone that he needed to go potty and so they had an unexpected intermission.

We went to see the lights at Willard Bay. It was a lot of fun and the boys really enjoyed it so we went through twice.

We made some yummy, fun treats to take to the neighbors this year. The boys were so excited to help me with the reindeer.

We also m ade a train engine for everyone in Benjamin's preschool class. They loved them!

Gracie dressed up in one of Grandma's Christmas gifts. The hat and scarf came on a 2 liter of pop and were made to look like a snowman. They fit Gracie perfectly.

We had a great weekend with family when we blessed Gracie. She was beautiful in her white dress. She was so good all through the blessing and did not make a peep until after and then we had to leave because she was starving.

We also had my SIL take some family pictures after the blessing. By the looks of it, everyone needed a nap!

We went to Hardware Ranch and rode on the sleigh among the elk herd. It was cold but fun.

Getting ready for Christmas!

We made the ever famous "Christmas Countdown Chain" on December 1st.

The boys had a blast making each loop for the chain and helping put it together.

I started doing a reward chart for each month (starting in Nov. with a turkey) and for nice, out of the ordinary things the boys do they get an ornament for the tree. Benjamin LOVES this and each day he asks if he gets an ornament. I think sometimes it makes him think before he acts.

Thanks to my grandma, who gave me an ornament each year, and to Taun's mom who gives us all ornaments each year, we have plenty of ornaments for our humble little tree. The boys loved putting all of them on the tree.

My mother gave me these chair covers one year and so I let Benjamin choose which one he wanted to put on his chair and as you can see it made him so happy.

Happy Birthday Taun!

We started the day by taking balloons and pie to Taun at work. Benjamin was so excited that it was daddy's birthday. He helped serve pie to everyone at Taun's office and we "made" the office staff sing Happy Birthday with us. (Taun was a good sport about it and didn't go hide in a hole.) Benjamin insisted on having hot dogs for dinner and Taun didn't mind so we had hot dogs for his birthday dinner.

He got a new shirt from me, wire cutters and a book from Benjamin, vice grips and candy (nandy) from Alex, and Nutella and candy from Gracie. The boys were so excited to wrap their presents for daddy and even more excited to help him open the presents.

We love DADDY!

Taun is such a great daddy and an amazing husband. He is so supportive and helpful. The boys love him and won't leave him alone from the minute he walks in the door til bedtime. He never complains when I ask him to do things for me. He tries to do his best in everything.

Benjamin's favorite thing about his daddy is that "he is so fun and he will play with me."

Alex's favorite thing about his daddy is that "he reads choo choo stories to me." (I had to guess what Alex would have said in response to this question.)

Pam called me at 1:30(ish) to give me the exciting news and then at 2:30 I received a call from my doctor to let me know that the labor and delivery department was waiting for me to come and deliver my baby. (I was pre-eclamptic)

We took the boys to Meggin's (Taun's sister) and headed to the hospital. Before I knew it the doctor was in telling me that my platelets had dropped and they needed to brake my water and get going on the delivery. She checked the baby and realized that she was breech and suggested that we try to turn her. The doctor pushed on my belly with such force that I thought I would die and to no avail. She tried and tried until she felt she could no more and the baby was still breech. It was time to start prepping for a C-section. The anesthesia numbed me from the chest down and I felt nothing but pressure. (Thank goodness for modern medicine!)

We are all so glad to have these beautiful babies here and part of our family. It is neat that they get to share a birthday. (Benjamin and Kade-Pam's oldest-also share a birthday 2 years apart.)

Welcome Home Gracie!

(Before reading this post please realize that it was written by a very tired mommy.)

We finally got to bring Gracie home on Thursday October 22. She spent 10 long days in the NICU. She was on a CPAP for 2 days and had an IV for 5 days. She also had a feeding tube for 8 days. I drove to the hospital 3 times a day to nurse her and then they fed her a bottle the other feeding times. Taun had to go back to work so the only way it was possible for me to spend some time with her was because my mom came and stayed with us for a week. She watched the boys, did laundry, cleaned the house, made meals, did laundry, took Benjamin to preschool, did laundry, and provided emotional support.

Every day I went in to see her she was all dolled up with an adorable outfit and a bow in her hair. The nurses loved bathing her and dressing her in the latest fashion. They really took great care of her there.

This is the day they took the feeding tube out. It left a red mark on her face for a few days but she is tube free!

She has some chub on her cheeks and chin but that is it. Her legs and arms are just skin and bones but she is getting better at eating, so it shouldn't be long before they fill out too.

My mom says that the pictures make her look bigger than she really is. She is really very tiny.

Here she is all ready for her first car ride ever. They had to do a car seat trial the night before so she was buckled in her carseat for an hour and a half to see how she would do. They do this with all babies in the NICU before they get to go home. She did great!

Big Brother Benjamin adores Gracie. He is always asking if he can hold her or check on her when she is sleeping. He sang her a lullaby when he was holding her, it went like this "Gracie, Gracie you're such cute. Gracie you're such cute!" It was SO CUTE. He can't get enough of her.

Alex loves to give her kisses. He insists on having his turn to hold her every time Benjamin is holding her.

here are the proud brothers. This is the first time they have seen her because no children are allowed in the hospital anymore. They waited the 10 long days to see her. I think Benjamin told me 100 times that I was crazy because we did not have a baby like I told him we did.

Thank you all for your support, thoughts and prayers in her behalf. She pulled through this trial great and she is lucky to have such wonderful people in her life who have not met her yet but have a great love for her anyway. We are grateful to have this little princess join our family.

Gracie Lucile Beddes was born on Monday Oct. 12, 2009. She is a little stinker and decided to come 4 1/2 weeks early and breech. The doctor tried to turn her but she would not budge so she was born via C-section at 7:43 p.m. She was early but she still weighed in at 6 lbs. 9 oz. and was 19 1/2 inches long. She is in the NICU because she had a hard time breathing on her own at first so she was on CPAP land on IV fluids. They took the CPAP off at 8 yesterday morning and she has been doing great. We just pray that she will continue to improve and get stronger. The doctor says she will be in NICU for at least a week and we will just play it by ear to see how she does. She is a cutie and we can't wait to bring her home. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers in her behalf.

This is Taun's sister, JeriDawn. We LOVE JeriDawn! She is our LIFESAVER! She has been the one who we call when we need to take Alex to the hospital or when I have needed to go there myself. We have called her in the afternoon, evening, or in the middle of the night. Her response has always been something like, "Sure, bring them over anytime." She watched Benjamin when we had to go to the hospital both times for Alex's seisure episodes and when I went to the ER for the first kidney infection attack. She has 4 (beautiful) children of her own and has never complained about "having" to help with ours. My children LOVE JeriDawn and often ask if they can go play at her house. I mention that we are going to play with Sierra, Mialee, and Nikell and Benjamin always asks if JeriDawn will be there too.

Yesterday afternoon I decided to go get my blood pressure checked at the Dr.'s office (I had had a headache all day and was pretty swollen.) The first time it was checked it was 161/58 so the nurse checked it again with another machiene and it was 152/54. Both high! Protein level was negative but the dr. wanted me to go have the contractions monitored at Labor and Delivery. Taun dropped me off at the hospital and went to let the kids play at JeriDawn's house. I realized I would be there for awhile so I called him to come sit with me incase anything happened. The kids stayed at JeriDawn's house.

After 4 hours at the hospital my blood pressure dropped and protein level was still negative. The blood work came back normal and the headache had gotten better. The dr. did a strep B test and checked for dialation and effacement. I was dialated to a 1 and 50% effaced (normal for someone with 35 weeks and previous pregnancies.) The dr. said to treat the headache with lortab or foricet and he put me on BED REST. I go in Monday or Tuesday to check up and will probably have to go in twice a week untill I deliver.

We went to JeriDawn's to get the kids and she was out walking with Alex and her 2 year old. Benjamin and Mialee (5 yr. old) were in the house painting and JeriDawn was doing grape juice. She has so much on her plate already and she is willing to help me with my children. I am so grateful for her and her ability to love my children as if they were her own. She is great and I don't know what we would do without her.

While we were gone...

Two weeks ago Taun and I went to Portland for a work conference he had. We were able to go for a whole week and while we were there we had a great time.

Taun designed this poster and had it printed for the conference. (It cost $120 to print) He then presented on his poster and another 30 minute power point. He did a great job and it will help him in his job.

When we got to the car rental place they said that they had reserved a 2010 Mustang for us to drive. Taun was all excited and I was not that thrilled.

We rented it anyway and it was fun for the first drive and then we both decided that it was not all it's cracked up to be.

It did feel like driving a race car and we felt pretty cool but we will never be spending our own money to buy one.

Taun skipped the last day of his conference so that we could go spend some time sight seeing together. We went to The Japaneese Botanical Gardens in Portland and to The Grotto.

This statue was at the JBG right after the entrance. It was pretty amazing!

The JBG was breathtaking with all of the beauty.

They have raked the sand around the rocks to make it look like ripples in the water.

At one point we were able to look out over the city of Portland. It was a very overcast day so it is hard to see but in real life it was beautiful!

While we were gone my parents watched this little munchkin and...

this little munchkin. We are so grateful to my parents for offering to watch them and spend some time at our house so that Benjamin did not miss a day of school. While we were gone my parents did some projects around our house.

My mom made cutrains for the boys room and for the new babies room. She also painted in the babies room and made some basket covers, carseat cover, nursing coverup, and carseat blanket. (Pictures to come) My dad replaced the brick in the back of the house, fixed the fence gate, and filled in some holes in the garden.

We moved Alexander's bed into Benjamin's room and put his new bedspread on it. (When Benjamin started sleeping in a "big boy bed" I had my mom make him a bedspread and then I found the same fabric and had her make one for Alex.)

We had to move the dresser into the closet so that both beds would fit. (I figured that they are not big enough to need the full length of the closet.) The boys love being in the same room and it is so much easier to put them to bed.

32 weeks!

I am officially 32 weeks along today. Just 2 more months to continue getting bigger and more uncomfortable. I am starting to get anxious about labor since I have always been induced and have no idea what it is like to go into labor by myself. I am also very excited about the new baby! Thanks to neighbors and sisters in law, she has more clothes than I ever expected...and I have not spent one penny. We love hand me downs!

We went up Logan Canyon with Taun's sister just for a hotdog roast and s'mores. YUM!

Benjamin was really enjoying his s'mores. I could not get him to sit still and that is why the picture is so blurry. The van in the back is our new van. I LOVE IT!

I went to the Jon Schmidt concert at Thanksgiving Point with a friend who has been in Virginia for 3 months and is moving to California in a month. It was so much fun and it was great to hang out with Amber.

My dad gave the boys several rides on the 4 wheeler. Every time we go down that is the first thing Benjamin asks for.

This is what all the hardwork looks like. It is awesome! Thanks to my parents for helping with the wall and to Taun's dad for replacing the roof. We now have a great patio that keeps me out of the sun while the boys are outside playing.

Benjamin's Birthday

Benjamin turned 4 on September 1st. He was so excited that we had a party at Grandma Davis' house with his cousin-friends. (please remember while you look at the pics that I am 7 months pregnant!)

He got a new backpack from Grandpa and Grandma Davis. He was so excited! It's Spiderman!

My boys were invited to a friend's birthday on Saturday so we went to the park and the zoo with them. When we first got to the party, all the kids were decorating their binoculars. (Two styrofoam cups glued together with the bottoms cut out.)

They had a snack afterward. Elephant shaped sandwiches, teddy grahams, bananas, and apple juice.

Then it was time for CHOCOLATE cupcakes and as usual, Alex enjoyed his very much.

Then they played on the playground before we went on a "safari" at the zoo. Benjamin is swinging with his "best pal" Quinn.

This is the bag they had for all the kids. Inside it was a Safari Book, a pencil, a baggie of M&M's, and a baggie with dimes and quarters (for duck food.) This mom thought of EVERYTHING!

After the party we took Taun's sisters kids to our house to play for a few hours. (JeriDawn just had a baby last Monday and her kids were driving her crazy.)

The kids had a great time eating lunch and playing in the water together. We loved having Sierra, Mialee, and Nikell over for a while.

Benjamin is so funny sometimes. I wanted to write down some of the funny things he has said lately so enjoy!

1- While talking to his cousin PoJo: "Hey PoJo, or should I call you Root beer Head."

2- My mom and I were talking in the car and Benjamin and I had the following conversation:

Benjamin: "Mom, are you frustrated?"

Me: "no, why?"

B: "I want you to be."

M: "Do you know what happens to mommies when they are frustrated?"

B: "no"

M: "They yell, scream, and cry a lot"

B: "oh, nevermind then"

3- Getting ready to run a race: "I'll be a rotten egg after you!"

4- While going to the bathroom: "It's okay to say bum in the bathroom but not in the living room. I can talk about the bathroom pee in here too but in the living room I can only talk about the letter p."

5- "Mom, it's only okay to call things 'stupid and dumb' not people."

So this past week has been very interesting but I went to the doctor today and had the ultrasound. We are having a GIRL! 100% positive, the doctor and the ultrasound tech said so. We will also be dealing with a kidney infection, kidney stones, and gall stones. I actually found this all out after going to the ER in Pocatello. We were at Taun's family reunion at my family's cabin and I was in alot of pain so I made Taun take me to the ER at 3:30 in the morning. I spent 2 days in the hospital and then went back for 1 day to the reunion. Hopefully we can just make it through the next 4 1/2 months before anything else happens. I will have to have surgery for the gall stones after the baby is born. We are just praying that everything else goes well and we get our baby girl here healthy and well.

Alexander had a birthday, shout hooray! My baby is 2! (I guess that is okay since I will be having another baby in 5 months.) We had a party on Saturday with my family and then another party on Sunday with Taun's family. He got some really great presents and we all had a really great time at both parties. Thanks to everyone for the toys, clothes, sleeping bag, and swimming pool. Since his bithday he has slept in his BIG BOY BED everynight and today he wanted me to put underwear over his diaper. I think he will grow up before I know it.

Seizure update:

He has not had any seizures since coming home from Primary Children's in May. He is still on medication and the rage comes and goes. It is so hard to know what to do when he rages because he cannot control it but I don't want to have him think that it is okay. We are so grateful that we were able to figure some things out but wish we could know the reasons he has seizures.

FISHING

Grandpa Davis took the kids fishing and we all had a blast. We only caught 2 fish but the fishermen were the 2 kids who really needed to catch a fish. Pam cast Cougar's line and within seconds he was reeling in a nice size fish. Then just as we were getting packed up to go, Pam cast another line and within seconds a fish was on the line so she handed it to Benjamin. He was so excited until it moved and then he wanted nothing to do with it.

Taun just emailed these pictures to me. They are the only pictures we have from Alex's hospital stay. All we had with us was Taun's cell phone. His head is wrapped to help the EEG leads attached to his head for the 24 hours. He was heavily sedated in one or more of the pictures and I wondered if he would ever be normal again. He is doing much better now and he is adjusting very well to being on medication. The Keppra-rage is mostly gone and we are so relieved to have our happy little Alex back. Thanks to all of you for your phone calls, prayers and support. We love you all and hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

We're Home!

Don't have much time but I still wanted to update and Taun is not home to check for grammar so bear with me. We came home on Tuesday and Alex is making huge progress every day. When we came home he could still not walk or talk. He was still so drugged and wiped out. I am staying home the rest of this week to be with him and watch his improvement. As of today, he is walking and signing some things. I will know that he is 100% normal when he starts getting into mischief (ex: drinking from the toilet, smaking his brother, etc...)

He is on an anti-seizure medication called Keppra. They say that sometimes people who are on Keppra can get Keppra-rage. We have seen it and we don't like it. Hopefully his body will adjust to the medication and the rage will go away. He will be on Keppra for a year and then they usually taiper them off of the medication and see how they do. They also gave us Diastat to give him incase of a breakthru seizure. Without insurance, 2 doses cost $700. Thank goodness once again for insurance. I pray we never have to use it but I am glad we have it on hand incase it does happen.

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers on Alex's behalf. I am so grateful for the Priesthood and all of it's many blessings.

What is PICU?

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Primary Children's Medical Center. Why do I care? Because that is where I am right now. Here's the story: Friday at 3:30 p.m., I am just chatting with some co-workers after a faculty meeting and my cell phone rings. It is Taun so I answer because I was interested to find out how the boys were doing (Alex was quite sick Friday morning, vomiting and really lethargic, so Taun stayed home with them). I answer the phone, and Taun says, "They are taking Alex to the hospital in an ambulance again." I run to my classroom as fast as my pregnant body will move and then to my truck and speed home. I was almost hyperventilating when I got home. I saw the ambulances and police cars at my house. I get in the ambulance and ride to the hospital. Alex had another seizure. He started playing; so Taun thought he was getting better. He laid down and shortly after let a blood curdling scream, tightened up, started shaking, his eyes were rolled back and he appeared to stop breathing. Taun called 911 and they took him to the hospital. We were in the ER for about 5 hours while they ran all the tests and x-rays (chest x-ray, blood work, rsv test--big tube shoved down nose, squirt stuff in and suck it back out). Everything looked normal so they released us (about 8:00 p.m.) and we went to get Benjamin from JeriDawn's house. Taun went in to get Benjamin, and I stayed in the car with Alex. About 6-7 minutes later I hear the same blood curdling scream, and I look back to see my baby tight and shaking with his eyes rolled back. Again, he appeared to not be breathing. I jump out of the car and scream for Taun. JeriDawn calls 911 and they Ambulance takes him back to the hospital.

The hospital kept him overnight. He started having seizures again at 4:00 AM. By his time, Logan Regional Hospital decided to transfer him to Primary Children's. He continued to have seizures every 40 minutes, in the ambulance on the way to SLC. By the time we reached Primary Children's he was having seizures every 10 minutes or so. He was given two or three different anti-seizure meds and taken to have a CAT scan. It revealed nothing was majorly wrong with his brain.

It is Sunday night and thus far he has gone through a lumbar puncture, E.C.G, MRI and continuous blood tests. He is a little more alert and not having seizures. By tomorrow he should be out of the PICU into a room in neurology.
